Artist biography
EDDIE FIGUEROA
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1978. Figueroa graduated with a Fine Arts Degree in Sculpture from the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Puerto Rico in 2000, and in 2009 he obtained a Master’s Degree in Industrial Design from the the Scuola Politecnica di Designo, Milan, Italy.
In 2005 he exhibited at the Traffic Biennal at EXITART New York and participated in the ICFF Outside Events, New York 2006-2010. From 2011 until 2014, he was invited to exhibit his works at the Salone Satellite, Salone del Mobile, Milan, Italy and to exhibit at the Triennal Design Museum, Milan. In 2014 was selected to represent Puerto Rico at the Museum Of Art and Design of New York in the design exhibition " New Territories". Recently presents a collection of furniture during the Salone del Mobile 2014 at Ceramic San Agostino collection of "flexible Architecture" by Philipe Stark.
From 2009 until 2011 he collaborated with the architecture and design studio of the Curator Marco Romanelli; developing furniture and lightning design for Italian brands as Driade, Desalto, Oluce, Hermes, Fiam, Glass Italia and Skitch. In 2011 he received a special mention in the MDF Italia and Cristalplant design competition.
His work has been published in various international design magazines, including the following:
Domus Magazine, Elle Decor Italia, Abitare Mag, Casa da Abitare, Living Mag.
At present, Eddie Figueroa lives and works in Puerto Rico, where he is focusing his research on identifying local original craftsmanship techniques in order to incorporate them to the industrial production of useful objects.
